The Philippine Group of Law Librarians (PGLL ) sponsored a seminar-workshop entitled “ Developing Competencies in Library Automation and Preservation held last May 14-16, 2014 at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City. Three librarians from the DLSU libraries attended this event namely Ms. Willian Frias, Ms. Juliet Olivar and Mr. Jorge Erwin Rada.   The objectives of this seminar are: to equip participants with the knowledge on how to assess and prioritize their collection; to experience hands-on book preservation; to anticipate the possible library crises and coping mechanisms using Project Noah ; to get acquainted to the available digital and/or online legal collection and resources in the Philippines and the United States; and to discover some available library management systems which a librarian may choose for their own libraries.

Three librarians from De La Salle University, namely Ms. Karen Natividad , Ms. Cynthia Cordova and Mr. Joseph Yap , are among the 87 participants who attended the “Training-Workshop on the Basics of Preservation, Conservation, Restoration & Data Curation” from April 10-12, 2014 at the Aquinas University of Legazpi, Rawis, Legazpi City, Albay . The training-workshop was sponsored by the Special Libraries Association-Asian Chapter in partnership with the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines (ASLP) , Aquinas University of Legazpi and Goethe-Institut .  The main objective of the said training-workshop is to bridge the gap of learning by linking respective institutions through collaboration and sharing of valuable ideas and expertise in the fields of preservation, conservation, restoration and data curation. The  Libraries  is pleased to announce to the Academic Community that  McGraw-Hill eBook Library  is now available in and off campus. The McGraw-Hill Professional eBook   Library  provides access to 37 eBook titles in the field of  Mechanical Engineering . Library users will find the search ability of the eBook Library simple to use with relevant, thorough results. Users can also register to create their own accounts so they can add notes, bookmarks and print parts of the book for their personal use. The trial access to Bankscope is now available until 21 April  2014 . Bankscope is a comprehensive, global database of banks’ financial statements, ratings and intelligence. It combines comprehensive data with flexible software for searching and analysing banks.  It contains detailed financial information for top public and private European, North American, Japanese, Russian and other major banks. The date 11 March 2014 marked the launching of the first law and technology hub in the Philippines, the MyLegalWhiz Hub, Law and Technology Center , at the 6/F, The Learning Commons, Henry Sy, Sr. Hall, De La Salle University-Manila. The memorandum of agreement (MoA) between DLSU-Manila and Thinc Office Corp. was signed by Br. Ricardo P. Laguda FSC , President and Chancellor of DLSU-Manila and Atty. Joseph Dexter M. Feliciano , Founder and CEO of Thinc Office Corp. Dr. Myrna S. Austria , Vice Chancellor for Academics; Mr. Edwin P. Santiago , Vice President for Administration; Dr. Leonila C. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) held the oath-taking ceremony and orientation for all officers and members of the six (6) National Committees under the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage (SCH) last March 6, 2014 at the Kachina Room, Century Park Hotel.  The six National Committees include National Committee on Archives (NCA) , National Committee on Art Galleries (NCAG) , National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) , National Committee on Library and Information Science (NCLIS) , N ational Committee on Monuments and Sites (NCMS) and the National Committee on Museums (NCM) . Ms.  Karen Natividad , the Coordinator of the Archives of the Libraries, is the academic archives representative of the Executive Council of the NCA. The Libraries' Top Performing Library Personnel (TPLP) Committee is now on its search for the 2013 Library Customers' Choice Awardee . The TPLP is an "annual tradition of the Libraries to recognize its employees that have rendered exemplary service to the academic community". Since the TPLP was postponed last December 2013, the winners will be awarded during the 2014 Library Planning/Workshop.  The Customers' Choice Award is a special award given to the personnel who is most liked by the library users based on their online and paper votes.  The academic community will only choose one from among the 71 candidates. They may base their vote on the following criteria: Demonstrates excellence in providing quality library service. Courteous and attentive to the needs of the library users. As part of the staff training program for the current academic year, the Libraries conducted a training-workshop entitled “Gearing Up for Lifelong Learning: A Training for Trainors” last January 10, 2014 at the EDC Multipurpose Hall , 13th floor of the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. Participants were librarians from the De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) schools. Dr. Rochelle Irene G. Lucas , Vice Dean of Br. Andrew Gonzalez College of Education, was invited as guest speaker to talk about “Librarians as Teachers: Learning the Basics”. She discussed topics on effective classroom management, characteristics of adult learners and how they learn best, and teaching methods and strategies that can be used to engage them more in the learning process. Using their laptops and handheld devices, the participants were trained on mastering selected electronic databases the Libraries is subscribed to.
