Simon De Leon  Readers' Services Librarian Simon De Leon is a librarian but arranges his own books by size and color. He also have stacks of books which are never read but won’t be weeded out anytime soon. He is also known to buy books because the cover is nice.  He doesn’t eat any vegetables that doesn’t have a semblance of a leaf on it and also hates ampalaya with passion. Every year, the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL) offers regular bursary awards for librarians who are not members of said organization, to take part in their annual course to provide international forum for networking and information sharing among legal information professionals and encourage legal professional development among its participants. With Ms. Petal Kinder, IALL Board Member This year, Willian S.A. Frias, Law Librarian of the De La Salle University, was chosen as a recipient of the 2017 International Association of Law Libraries Annual Course Regular Bursary Awards. She was one of the 3 winners of the coveted international award, participated by about 80 applicants from all over the world. The Award entitled her to free registration in attending the 2017 IALL Annual Course, and US$2,000.00 to cover her airfare and subsidize her accommodation. The role of libraries in preserving cultural heritage in the digital age was the main focus of the recently concluded 5 th International Conference on Asian Special Libraries (ICoASL 2017) with a theme “Curation and Management of Cultural Heritage through Libraries: Challenges and Opportunities for the Digital Society” held last 10-12 May 2017 in UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta Indonesia. The said event was jointly organized by The Special Libraries Association (SLA)-Asian Chapter and the Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN Sunan Kalijaga). More than sixty (60) library personnel attended the  Faith Formation Seminar  with the theme  Spirituality in the Workplace   held at the St. Scholastica’s Center for Spirituality in Tagaytay City on 12 May 2016 .    Fr. Francis Xavier Salcedo, former DLSU Chaplain, was invited as the resource speaker. He discussed the spirituality of work and work-life balance; stewardship and finding life’s purpose and meaning; and, spiritual leadership and accompaniment in the workplace.  Fr. Salcedo explained that working is not just a personal but also familial and societal issue. He stressed that one can work more effectively and efficiently if he/she has a better understanding of balance in the work-life and the spirituality of work. Now on its 36th season, this year's Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) was held on 16-20 September 2015 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.  The MIBF is an annual book trade event participated in by various book dealers and publishers, offering fair price for its wide array of books and other learning materials. Book signing, story telling sessions and other co-located events are also being held in this 5-day affair. Not only does it serve as a venue for the book publishing industry, the MIBF also brings together information professionals and library associations under one roof, where several activities, such as lecture forums and workshops, are given. Filipino librarians at the WLIC 2014 The 80th World Library and Infomation Congress (WLIC) of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) was held on 16-22 August 2014 at the Lyon Convention Centre in Lyon, France. This year's theme is Libraries, Citizens, Societies: Confluence for Knowledge . This 7-day Congress saw a delegation of nearly 2,000 library and information professionals from all over the world, where it became a venue for knowledge sharing, collaboration and networking. C. The 7 th Shanghai International Library Forum  (SILF)  held in Shanghai Library, Shanghai, China from July 9-11, 2014 attracted about 400 delegates from 26 countries. A total of 46 papers were accepted including my paper entitled, “Introduction of e-reserves at the De La Salle University – Manila Libraries.” The theme for this biennial event is “Libraries in the Transition Era: New Space • New Services • New Experience.” Participants may choose to attend from six subthemes of the forum divided among four parallel-sessions. The subthemes are as follows: (1) the role of and challenges to libraries in the context of digital humanities, (2) library services and management in the big data era, (3) the orientation and development of physical libraries in the network society, (4) diversified library services and core competitiveness, (5) skill requirements and career vision of librarians in the omni-media age, and (6) reading for all and libraries.

The Philippine Group of Law Librarians (PGLL ) sponsored a seminar-workshop entitled “ Developing Competencies in Library Automation and Preservation held last May 14-16, 2014 at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City. Three librarians from the DLSU libraries attended this event namely Ms. Willian Frias, Ms. Juliet Olivar and Mr. Jorge Erwin Rada.   The objectives of this seminar are: to equip participants with the knowledge on how to assess and prioritize their collection; to experience hands-on book preservation; to anticipate the possible library crises and coping mechanisms using Project Noah ; to get acquainted to the available digital and/or online legal collection and resources in the Philippines and the United States; and to discover some available library management systems which a librarian may choose for their own libraries.

Three librarians from De La Salle University, namely Ms. Karen Natividad , Ms. Cynthia Cordova and Mr. Joseph Yap , are among the 87 participants who attended the “Training-Workshop on the Basics of Preservation, Conservation, Restoration & Data Curation” from April 10-12, 2014 at the Aquinas University of Legazpi, Rawis, Legazpi City, Albay . The training-workshop was sponsored by the Special Libraries Association-Asian Chapter in partnership with the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines (ASLP) , Aquinas University of Legazpi and Goethe-Institut .  The main objective of the said training-workshop is to bridge the gap of learning by linking respective institutions through collaboration and sharing of valuable ideas and expertise in the fields of preservation, conservation, restoration and data curation. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) held the oath-taking ceremony and orientation for all officers and members of the six (6) National Committees under the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage (SCH) last March 6, 2014 at the Kachina Room, Century Park Hotel.  The six National Committees include National Committee on Archives (NCA) , National Committee on Art Galleries (NCAG) , National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) , National Committee on Library and Information Science (NCLIS) , N ational Committee on Monuments and Sites (NCMS) and the National Committee on Museums (NCM) . The Libraries' Top Performing Library Personnel (TPLP) Committee is now on its search for the 2013 Library Customers' Choice Awardee . The TPLP is an "annual tradition of the Libraries to recognize its employees that have rendered exemplary service to the academic community". Since the TPLP was postponed last December 2013, the winners will be awarded during the 2014 Library Planning/Workshop.  The Customers' Choice Award is a special award given to the personnel who is most liked by the library users based on their online and paper votes.  The academic community will only choose one from among the 71 candidates.
