As part of the DLSU No Impact Experiment, the Libraries and the American Corner-Manila joined the LEAP class of Dr. Carla Pacis to teach the school children basic vegetable gardening and to tell stories about eating green leafy vegetables. This outreach activity was held at the Natipuan Elementary School, Natipuan, Batangas on 14 June 2016.  One hundred (100) children in grades K-2 listened to storytelling sessions conducted by Candy May Schijf, STC Library Coordinator. A total of 180 children in grades 3-6 participated in the vegetable planting workshop. Lanie Espiritu from Home Gardening was invited to give a lecture and demonstration on vegetable gardening.  This activity was also attended by seven student volunteers from DLSU Manila as alternative learning class. 

American Corners are the strategic overseas platforms for engaging local audiences and steering public diplomacy. Hence, every Corner is progressively expected to plan and execute projects that support the mission goals. This was the objective of the three-day course held on 2-4 March 2016 at the U.S Embassy, Manila that was attended by the American Corner Director Ana Maria Fresnido and Associate American Studies Resource Center Librarian Donna Lyn Labangon to represent the American Corner Manila. During the conference, representatives from the 14 American Corners in the Philippines plan and develop innovative programming that targets the five (5) core programs, namely: information about the U.S.; English Language Learning; EducationUSA; alumni;  and cultural.  With emphasis on green initiatives, American Corner Manila proposed programs like urban gardening, mangrove planting and recycling contest. On 01 September 2015, the American Corner Manila hosted a  film  screening of Lives Worth Living  to highlight the awareness campaign for people with disabilities around the world.  Lives Worth Living is a documentary  film   about the Disability Rights Movement   that portrays the challenges, problems and barriers faced by people with disabilities  to secure  civil, political and social rights  ( learn more about the  film here ). Appointed Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the U.S. Department of State ,   Judith Heumann , graced the event in her first leg of a series of engagements with the Philippine government, civil society groups and student on the rights of people with disabilities ( read more about SADR Judith Heumann here ).
