IIP Officer Visits American Corner - Manila

Mr. Macon Phillips, a coordinator from the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP), based in Washington, DC, visited the American Corner-Manila on October 22, 2014 for a round table discussion with members of YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative) in the Philippines.

YSEALI was launched in 2013 by U.S. President Barack Obama aimed at strengthening leadership development and networking in Southeast Asia. It seeks to build the leadership capabilities of youth in the region, strengthen ties between the United States and Southeast Asia, and nurture an ASEAN community through a variety of programs and engagements, including U.S. educational and cultural exchanges, regional exchanges, and seed funding (https://youngsoutheastasianleaders.state.gov/about-yseali/)

The round table discussion sought to elicit opinions and ideas from the members of the YSEALI. Students from DLSU were also invited to join and be a part of the growing YSEALI community to help foster community leadership among youth in ASEAN member countries.

Joining Mr. Philips were Ms. Gretchen Weintraub (IIP for Southeast Asia), Sarah Ziebel (IRO for South East Asia) and Ms. Jennifer Foltz, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officers of the US Embassy.
