One faculty
librarian, 2 administrative assistants, 5 library assistants, and 2 AV Technicians
were among the 192 service awardees recognized during the 3rd DLSU
Annual Institutional Service Awards held last August 1 at the Teresa G.
Yuchengco Auditorium.
Ms. Jocelyn T.
Balangue and Mr. Ulysses T. Balatbat were
some of the recipients of the Josefina
H. Alburo FSC Service Awards and for rendering
35 years of dedicated and committed service to the university.
Recipients of
the 25-year service awards were Mr.
Pablito G. Mabahague, Mr. Rolando H.
Masindo, and Mr. Antonio B. Meneses while Mr.
Joel Gementiza received the 20-year service award.
15-year service
awardees were Mr. Joel A. Carino, Mr.
Robert M. Cuenca and Mr. Melchor A. Villas. Another library staff member, Mr.
Norman Villareal, received the ten-year service award.
Jocelyn T. Balangue, a 35 year service awardee, started her career as library clerk at
the Filipiniana section on June 14, 1978. After she finished her course in Bachelor’s
Degree in Education major in Library Science in October 1981 from Manuel L. Quezon
University, she was promoted in February 1982 as Assistant Acquisitions Librarian
and she was been in-charge in the processing of serials subscriptions and
donations. In September 13, 1995, she was promoted as an Academic Service
Faculty (ASF) and became the Acquisitions Librarian overseeing the acquisitions
of books, serials subscriptions and donations. J. Balangue finished her Master of Arts in
Library Science at Centro Escolar University in 2000. In January 2010, the library implements job
rotation among selected librarian positions. J. Balangue, Acquisitions Librarian for 14
years was been transferred to the Filipiniana section and became the
Filipiniana librarian. In May 24, 2012,
she was assigned at the Br. Benedict Learning Resource Center (BBLRC) as Librarian.
She was also the Coordinator of the Satellite Libraries.
Ulysses T. Balatbat, a 35
year service awardee, started working in DLSU as Maintenance in 1978 until 1980.
He was hired by the university in 1980 as library clerk and now assumed the
position of Library Assistant at the Circulation section. He finished his vocational course on Auto
Diesel Mechanics with specialization at the Guzman Institute of Technology.
Pablito
Mabahague, a 25 year service awardee, started working on a project basis in
the library on April 11, 1988. He was hired as library clerk at the
Periodicals section and has been made permanent last April 1, 1989 and now
assumed the position of Library Assistant at the said section. He finished Architectural Drafting at the
Central Institute of Technology and undergraduate for Bachelor of Office
Administration at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

Rolando Masindo, a 25 year service awardee, started working as library clerk on
April 11, 1988 at the Periodicals section. He finished his Bachelor’s Degree in
Business Management major in Management at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines
last April 3, 1986. In October 1997, he
was promoted as Assistant Librarian at the Circulation section. He finished his
Master’s Degree in Library Science in Centro Escolar University last March 2010
and passed the Board Examination for Librarians last November 6, 2013. At
present, he was one of the Administrative Assistant of the Circulation section.
[I’ve enjoyed my 25 years stay here in DLSU and this
institution is my bread and butter].
Antonio B. Meneses, a 25 year service awardee, started working as library clerk at the
Acquisitions section on April 1989. He finished
his Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration Major in Accounting at the Polytechnic
University of the Philippines. At present, he served as Library Assistant at
the Technical Services. [I just wanna thank DLSU for giving me one
more year to be part of the personnel people. DLSU teaches me how to be
responsible, peaceful and religious. God bless DLSU!].

Joel Gementiza, a 20 year service awardee, started working in 1994 as library
clerk at the Circulation section. After
finishing his specialization in Library Science in 1997, he was promoted as Assistant
Librarian at the Periodicals section. He
was presently one of the Administrative Assistant at the Circulation section.
[Now that I am in 20 years of my service here in DLSU, a lot of things had gone
thru and a lot of changes happened but still, the Lasallian values of Religio,
Mores, et Cultura will always serve as a guide in my pursuit of professional
advancement and in dealing with people, regardless of whether they are part of
the Lasallian family or not

Joel Carino, a 15 year service awardee, started working as AV technician at the
Instructional Media Services of the Library and later on transferred at the AGH
Law Library. He finished his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and
Communications Engineering at the
University of the East.
Robert Cuenca, a 15 year service awardee, started working as library clerk in 1999
and was assigned at the Circulation section and later on transferred to American
Studies Resource Center (ASRC) as Library Assistant. He finished his Bachelor’s
degree in Education major in History at Bayawan College. [The reason why I’m here in DLSU for 15 years,
because in the first place I like and
love my job, secondly, DLSU never fails to give all our benefits as
worker. That’s all thank you]
Melchor A. Villas, a 15 year service awardee, started working as AV Technician at the
Physical Facilities Logistic Office from September 1, 1998 to September 3,
2002. He was transferred at the
Instructional Media Services of the Library as AV Technician last September 4,
2002. He finished his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications
Engineering at the Lyceum of the Philippines. [Nagpapasalamat ako sa DLSU dahil
15 years ko ng kaagapay sa pagtataguyod sa aking pamilya].
Norman Villareal, a 10 year service awardee, started working as contractual employee
in the Acquisitions section under the Serman Agency in 2003. He was hired as library clerk in 2004 at the Circulation
section. He was currently assigned as Library Assistant at the AGH Law Library effective
May 2013. He finished his Bachelor’s Degree
in Business Administration Major in Marketing
at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
