In line with the International Women’s Month , a successful third run of the diplomatic dialogue series was held last 28 March 2019 at The Learning Commons, 6th floor, Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. Unlike the first two sessions where the focus were Filipina diplomats, this third session went global when four esteemed foreign lady ambassadors talked about the challenging theme on women as better diplomats. Keeping up with the foremost objective of the Laguna Campus to be the center of science and technology, the Libraries formally launched the Information Commons last 28 March 2019.  The Information Commons in Laguna is a library that emphasizes more spaces that imbibe collaboration and digital scholarship. It was established in support of the academic, learning and research mission of the university. With the evolving learning needs of our students today, it is goal of the Libraries' to have people come to the library and experience this innovative learning space. Now on its 8th year, the University of the Philippines Library Science Alumni Association (UPLSAA) held its annual seminar-workshop, last 6-8 March 2019 at The Palladium Hotel, Coron, Palawan. This was dubbed as A dvancing Libraries, Archives, and Museums (ALAM) 2019 with the theme “Information for All: Creating the Right Balance Between Access, Usability, and Security towards Inclusive LAMs” . This year’s seminar-workshop aims to promote the objectives of the UNESCO Information for All Programme (IFAP) and to integrate them in the context and practices of Philippine LAMs and LAM practitioners. On 21 January 2019, Ingrid Sala Santamaria donated a collection of books, CDs and DVDs to the Libraries. In line with this, she gave her Remarks of Circumstance focusing on the purpose of life. She recalled how she been organizing and collating these materials in the spirit of documenting how she lived her life. (A copy of the Invitation nestled on the book “My Four Seasons”) Born in Cebu City, Philippines, Ingrid Sala Santamaria received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Battig Piano School in Cebu under her mother, Pilar Blanco Sala. Further studies followed at the Juilliard School in New York. She received a master's degree from Sta. Isabel College in Manila. De La Salle University conferred on her the Doctor of Music degree in Music Education, honoris causa, in 2006. As chair of the Salvador and Pilar Sala Foundation, Inc. Promoting media and information literacy education with its opportunities and challenges were the main focus of the 1 st National MIL Forum held last 18-19 January 2019 at the Quezon City Sports Club, E. Rodriguez, Quezon City. The activity was organized by the Philippine MIL Core Group, an ad hoc committee of MIL educators, advocates, and practitioners in the Philippines and the Philippines Communication Society. This national forum aims: (1) to discuss the state of media and information literacy education in the country; (2) to describe the role of media and libraries in promoting media and information literacy education; (3) to develop an outline of topics for revised media and information literacy curriculum guide in SHS; and (4) to identify strategies in teaching media and information literacy. Now on its sixth year, the Libraries will be holding its annual information literacy campaign called  IamInfoSMART  with the theme  " InfoLIT in Every Bit ”  on  12-17 November 2018  at The Learning Commons. This activity is in line with the celebration of the Library and Information Services (LIS) month this November. SMART  refers to the ability to:  S eek for the right information;  M anage retrieved information effectively;  A ssess information critically;  R efer information sources correctly; and  T reat and apply information ethically. IamInfoSMART 2018  is a week-long fair of exhibitions, learning sessions and interactive games, which aims at honing the IL skills of students and raising awareness on the importance of IL in their pursuit for academic and research excellence. The Libraries, as part of its annual information literacy campaign – IamInfoSMART 2018, will be conducting WeAreInfoSMART with the theme “Think, Create, Innovate: An InfoSMART Make-a-thon Challenge . This will be held at the Makerspace, 12th floor, Henry Sy Sr. Hall on 15 November 2018, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The activity is in coordination with American Corner Manila and aims to teach media and information literacy skills, let participants reflect on the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and inspire creativity among the participants by making prototypes to address the SDGs. The activity is open to public secondary schools in Metro Manila, with ten (10) limited slots for the DLSU students. Interested participants are required to register online (fill out the form HERE ). As part of the IamInfoSMART 2018 campaign of making every Lasallian information literate, The Libraries will hold a special session of the Face-to-Face with RIA (Roving Information Assistant) service called RIA’s Research Help Desk on 14-16 November (Wednesday-Friday), 9:00am-5:00pm at the Exhibit Area of The Learning Commons, 6th floor, Henry Sy Sr. Hall. Similar to the concept of “Book-a-librarian”, Face-to-Face with RIA is available for a 30 to 60-minute, one-on-one instruction on topics such as the formulation of search strategies, subject database searching, evaluating sources of information, referencing, citation management tools, and Turnitin. However, the following will not be covered: (a) computer configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting; (b) provision of investment, legal, or medical advice; (c) tutoring or homework help; and, (d) job interview preparation. The Libraries, as part of its annual information literacy campaign – IamInfoSMART 2018, will be conducting a free lecture/workshop with LORA, the Librarian with the theme "Learning In Libraries: A Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Seminar-Workshop". This will be held at the Philippe Jones Lhuillier Conference Room, 14th floor, Henry Sy Sr. Hall on 14 November 2018, 10:00AM to 5:00PM. This lecture/workshop is open to librarians of public secondary schools in Metro Manila. It aims to assist and aid both school librarians to better facilitate and support MIL instruction in their schools. The background knowledge of participants on MIL will be measured through their pre and post-test scores to be conducted during the workshop.
