DLSU Libraries Conducts a Training-Workshop on Research


On February 12-13, 2015, the DLSU Libraries conducted a one and a half day training-workshop on research capability building with the themeLearning to the Core: Building a Culture of Research, held at the EDC Multipurpose Rm., Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. The training was intended for the DLSU Librarians in preparation for library’s research mentorship program. Five librarians from De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde were also present.

The keynote “Why do I need to write? Can I do it?” was given by Prof. Rhea Rowena U. Apolinario from School of Library Information Studies, UP Diliman. In support with Prof. Apolinario’s motivation to go on research, Mr. Joseph Yap, Coordinator, Instructional Media Services and Head, Systems Services at DLSU Libraries, has inspired the participants by sharing “If I can do it, you can also do it.” He testified that aside from presenting his papers, he can travel locally and internationally and also can meet new friends as well. To fully understand the library’s mentoring program, Ms. Christine Abrigo, Asst. Director for DLSU Libraries explained the details and the objectives of the program. Concerning on “How to Write a Winning Abstract?”, it was presented by Mr. Stephen Alayon,  Librarian from Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC). To help the participants come up with their research proposals, the research agenda as well as the different kinds of emerging research methods were given by one of the DLSU Librarians, Ms. Marian Eclevia, the Head, Information-Reference Librarian and Coordinator, Readers’ Services. Lastly, with the presentation of  Dr. Leah Gustilo, Associate Professor from DLSU BAG-College of Education, and with the guidance and support of the mentors, the participants can now formulate the research papers which can be presented locally and internationally and also can be submitted for publication as well.


The training-workshop has contributed a lot in enhancing the participant’s writing skills and has motivated them to start conducting a research. Furthermore, the overall aim of the training which is for participants to gain wider appreciation of research has been met.
