IamInfoSMART Video Contest winners announced

As part of the Online IamInfoSMART Project , the Libraries conducted a video contest from 13 August to 30 September 2014 . This activity aims to solicit ideas from library patrons themselves by actively engaging them in the development of short video tutorials on information literacy skills.

Bongalos is certified archivist!

The Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) welcomes and congratulates Florbella Bongalos, a member of the DLSU Co-Academic Personnel (CAP) assigned at the Archives, Library, for passing the 2014 archival certification examination, held at   New York University, New York on 13 August 2014.    Bongalos currently becomes the first and only Filipino certified archivist by passing the ACA certification examination.

IIP Officer Visits American Corner - Manila

Mr. Macon Phillips , a coordinator from the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP), based in Washington, DC, visited the American Corner-Manila on October 22, 2014 for a round table discussion with members of  YSEALI  ( Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative ) in the Philippines.

IamInfoSMART Symposium on Library Instruction Make-Over

As part of the IamInfoSMART campaign, the Libraries will be holding a symposium on “ Library Instruction Make-over: Developing An Engaging Information Literacy Program ” on 13 November 2014 , 2:00PM - 5:00PM to be held at the Exhibit Area of The Learning Commons, 13F Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. This activity aims to (1) raise awareness on the importance of information literacy being a vital component of lifelong learning; (2) help librarians and LIS students develop new strategies in teaching information literacy skills; (3) understand the issues and challenges in teaching information literacy skills; and, (4) promote reference services and programs of the DLSU Libraries. Librarians, library administrators, faculty and students of LIS, and library volunteers are invited to participate in this symposium. Activate the Learners! : Gamified Information Literacy

As part of the IamInfoSMART campaign, the Libraries will be having a week-long IamInfoSMART Multimedia Exhibit with the theme “ Activate The Learners!: Empowering InfoSMART Lasallians Through Engagement ” on 10-14 November 2014 , 8:00AM - 5:00PM, at the Exhibit Area of The Learning Commons, 6F Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. It is a week-long fair of exhibitions, learning sessions, and interactive games, which are all aimed at engaging student participation. IamInfoSMART aims at honing students to become information literate (IL) by equipping them with the necessary IL skills and raising their awareness on the importance of IL in their pursuit for academic and research excellence.

DLSU Libraries Bluff: Student Edition

As part of the IamInfoSMART campaign, the Libraries will hold the DLSU Libraries Bluff on 12 November 2014 (Wednesday), 2:00-4:00PM at the Exhibit Area of The Learning Commons, 6F Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. Mechanics The DLSU Libraries Bluff (based on the TV game show Celebrity Bluff) is open to all bona-fide DLSU undergraduate students. Interested participants should form a team of three and sign up. The ways to sign up:  - send an email to the library@dlsu.edu.ph - fill out the Online Registration Form - enlist at the Information Reference Desk at the 7th floor of the Learning Commons Registration starts on 13 October 2014 and will be closed as soon as the slots are filled in. IamInfoSMART Amazing Race is Back for Year 2!

As part of the IamInfoSMART campaign, the Libraries will hold the IamInfoSMART Amazing Race 2 on 14 November 2014 (Friday), 9:00am with the start line at the Exhibit Area of The Learning Commons, 6F Henry Sy, Sr. Hall. Based on the reality TV series, the contest will lead contestants to different sections of The Learning Commons, where they must perform various tasks in a race against other teams. This activity aims to teach students how to (1) determine the nature and extent of information needed; (2) find and locate the needed information effectively and efficiently; (3) evaluate information sources; and (4) use information ethically and legally.

In celebration of the Library and Information Services (LIS) month this November, the Libraries will be running an Information Literacy (IL) Campaign called IamInfoSMART with the theme “Activate The Learners!: Empowering InfoSMART Lasallians Through Engagement” on 10-14 November 2014 . SMART refers to the ability to: S eek for the right information; M anage retrieved information effectively; A ssess information critically; R efer information sources correctly; and T reat and apply information ethically. Historical Truths and Lies: Scarborough Shoal in Ancient Maps: a cartographic exhibit

The  Institute for Maritime and Oceans Affairs  and  Maritime Law Association of the Philippines  in partnership with the  De La Salle University Libraries  launched a Cartographic Exhibit on “ Historical Truths and Lies: Scarborough Shoal in Ancient Maps  displaying copies of 60 ancient maps  of China and the Philippines, relating to both countries' disputed claims in the West Philippine Sea. Said exhibit, which ran from September 11 to 26, 2014, was b ased on the lecture delivered by  Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio , who was also present during the opening ceremonies to give his thoughts on how the dispute between the two countries could be resolved. Hon.  Albert F. Del Rosario,  Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, also delivered a message specifically pointing out the evidences defying China’s claims on the Scarborough Shoal.
