Philippines to host an international conference for special libraries


The Special Libraries Association-Asian Chapter in association with the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines (ASLP) is set to host the 3rd International Conference of Asian Special Libraries (ICoASL).  The event will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) from 10-12 April 2013.  This year’s theme is: Special Libraries towards Achieving Dynamic, Strategic, and Responsible Working Environment."

It is the aim of of ICoASL to provide a platform for exchange of knowledge and skills relevant to information professionals in Asia, with a global perspective.  This major event expects global participation from the field of information science and professionals involved in library research, practice, and other related disciplines in the field of library and information studies.

Specific topics included are the following:
  • Special Libraries at the forefront of digital infrastructure
  • Institutional repositories and digital curation
  • Future of Special Libraries: Innovative designs towards a greener library
  • Achieving competencies beyond the profession through empowering librarian and other library personnel
  • Collaboration, cooperation and partnership among colleagues, institutions and business entities.
  • The future of the profession: Dynamic roles of library associations and academic institutions
  • Going beyond the box: The role of public relations and marketing strategies
  • Corporate social responsibilities and customer care
  • Virtual networking as a tool for bridging the gap of communication 
  • New trends, techniques, and innovations in preservation and conservation
  • Open access vs. copyright and intellectual property: Ethics and fair use
  • Ethics and professionalism in library and information services: Preparing, developing and strategizing leadership to bring about a culture of values and sense of accountability in the future leaders of Library and Information Science

The event will be graced by distinguished speakers.  The keynote speaker is Sen. Edgardo Angara, Chair of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture. Guest speakers include, Ms. Pinky Aquino-Abellada (AGAPP Foundation), Ms. Deborah Hunt (SLA President), Dr. Hannelore Vogt (Cologne Public Library), Dr. Klaus Tochtermann (German National Library of Economics), Mr. Reinhard Feldmann (University of Munster) and Mr. Stephen Abram (Gale Cengage Learning).
